Movers, but Hopefully Not Shakers

moving-menWhen one of our customers asks us for a lawyer, mortgage broker or inspector, Lori and I generally give them three or more names from which to choose.  We always give the names of people we like, and with whom we’ve had good experiences, but we also like for people to be able to choose the person with whom they “hit it off” and we don’t want to be accused of showing favoritism to any one person or agency.

Today, one of our sellers asked if we could recommend a good moving company.  To be honest, I haven’t dealt with movers a whole lot, so I really don’t have a recommendation other than picking a name out of the Village Voice.  We do however, have a following here at HREN, so I put it to all of you – have you had a particularly good experience with a mover?  How about some recommendations?  Have you had a bad experiences?  Tell us who we should be avoiding too.

we used L&L a year ago and they were great

Moishe’s movers were also fine. It was a local move within Hoboken.

Just moved into town from the central NJ region and used Absolute Moving Systems out of East Brunswick. They provided a written estimate, showed up on-time, wrapped the furniture very well and did a great job in the summer heat moving the stuff safely into a second-floor walk-up. If you’re moving to or from the central NJ area, I highly recommend them.

I’d go with Morrissey Moving company located here in Hoboken. Call them toll free at (888)222-1339 or locally at (201)222-1224. They were professional, courteous, fast, and they came in cheaper than everyone else I priced them against. The owner himself, Mr. Morrissey. comes to your home to check out your stuff and give you the quote. He shows you his license to operate and up to date insurance coverage. Because our move was just around the corner, they even told us they wouldn’t use a truck so we could save some money.

i just moved this weekend using Tommy’s – they were great – accurate estimate in advance, super nice, furniture all arrived in one piece, nothing to really complain about – would easily recommend them again

we had gotten estimates from both tommy’s and morrissey’s. for what its worth, the hourly rates are identical – i think morrissey’s slightly overestimated the time and tommy’s slightly underestimated, but difference wasn’t big on either side.

Not local, but i like flatrate.com. I have been burned before with movers underestimating moves.

would use L&L anytime. They were extremely fast and the estimate was spot on. Even came back to fix a scratch that I got on one of my coffee tables. Extremely professional.

We used Sunrise Moving (516-458-2420). Wonderful movers – they took great care of our belongings, were prompt, fast, and neat. They took time to wrap all fragile items and even take apart (and put back together) our bed. I would not trust anyone else. Ask for Gary.

i have used morrisseys twice. they were great both times, coming in under the estimated time. as craig said, the owner came and did the estimate, had all his paperwork in order and was just really nice about the whole thing.
