Hoboken High Rocks the House with Hairspray

As a realtor, I’m often asked by my buyers “How are the schools in Hoboken?”  Not having children of my own, I am not as in the loop as some moms around town might be.  I used to answer that I’d heard that the lower grades had improved greatly but the High School, not so much.

Last night we attended the Hoboken High production of Hairspray and I had a real awakening.  Something amazing is going on at Hoboken High. This production was on a level with many professional theater companies I’ve seen.  I mean, it was as good or better than anything I’ve seen off-Broadway.  The commitment of these kids to this production shone through like a beacon.   They credit their teacher, “Miss O” for their success and when she came out to take a bow, the kids’ admiration for her was readily apparent.  If the teachers at Hoboken High can inspire this level of energy and passion in such a large and diverse group of students I would be thrilled for my child to attend school there.

The final performance is today at 2pm.  For more info on upcoming productions, go to HobokenBackstage.com. Here is a pictures from last night’s performance:

I realize it is tough to be in the loop on school issues when you don’t have kids, or when you don’t have school aged kids. Lori, I think you are well-informed. But a couple of realtors I have spoken with recently knew nothing about the Hoboken school situation. I don’t think this is good – we chose not to work with them because we felt they didn’t understand our needs. I think a realtor needs to know more than what restaurants are good and how to get into the city.

I have lived in Hoboken for over a decade and am proud to be an active member of the community. I love living here. How can you sell something you don’t know or believe in?
