Happy Christmas, Chanukah, Kwanzaa, Festivus and/or Whatever Holiday You Choose to Celebrate

Xmas 2011(small)

Dear loyal HREN readers,

It was almost exactly one year ago to the day, in our last blog post of 2010, that I thanked all the well-wishers for their prayers and demonstrations of support as our beloved dog Sempai had just undergone some rather extensive surgery.  He was recovering well at that time, and he went on to have one of his most fun years ever in 2011 hiking, burying bones, playing, making mischief and doing everything but behave like a 12 year old dog.

Unfortunately, last week we discovered some more bad stuff in him, and Sempai is once again recovering from a turn under the knife.  We again want to thank everyone from the bottom of our hearts for all the love and support you have shown us – both our close friends and family, and our extended HREN family.

Most importantly we want to thank Sempai’s brilliant surgeon, Dr. Garrett Davis, and his oncologist, the phenomenal Dr. Joshua Lachowicz and the great staffs of both Red Bank Veterinary Hospital, and NYC Veterinary Specialists.  You could not ask for better care.   Allow me also to take this moment to put in a plug for Dr. Lachowicz’ charity – the Joshua Louis Animal Cancer Foundation.  Buy one of his CD’s as a gift and help fight cancer in animals – one song at a time.  We donate 1% of all our real estate commissions to this wonderful charity.

The best news is that  Sempai is doing splendidly, recovering quickly, and expected to be stealing food, bossing Lori around, kicking butt and taking names in no time.  We are truly blessed.

Lori and I hope you all have a wonderful holiday, whatever religious beliefs you hold, and wish you nothing but peace, happiness, good health and great success in 2012.  We’ve already got everything in the world we want – and he is orange.

I’m glad to hear Sempai is doing well. As a pet owner myself, I can empathize with the need to do whatever it takes to make them well when they’re ill. I concur that NYC Veterinary Specialists (now called Blue Pearl) is among the best animal hospitals in the metro NYC Area after bringing my dog there to see a cardiologist. It’s definitely where I would go for an off-hours emergency – but I have to say it was a good thing we had pet health insurance before we walked into that place.
